- Google will let certified online gambling operators use YouTube's Masthead placement from 21 October 2026.
- Eligibility extends beyond sports betting to other forms of online gaming.
- Google has not yet said which markets the expansion will cover.
- Advertisers that are not subject to any state or national gambling registration requirements are excluded.
Google will open YouTube's Masthead placement to certified online gambling operators from 21 October 2026, widening eligibility beyond sports betting, Focus Gaming News reported. Only operators that are subject to gambling registration requirements will qualify.
Operators and the agencies that run their accounts may want to check certification status and account structures before the start date.
What happened
The Masthead is a video advertisement shown at the top of YouTube's homepage. The change extends eligibility beyond sports betting: from 21 October 2026, certified operators in other online gaming verticals will also be able to use it.
Google has not yet said which markets the expansion will cover. The updated policy excludes advertisers that are not subject to state or national gambling registration requirements.
The change follows an update on 14 September to Google's gambling advertising certification process. Under it, the policy health checks that Google first used in some gambling markets in March 2026 now cover all categories within the Gambling and Games policy. Before gambling ads can run, advertisers have to secure certification and maintain it. Accounts that fail the checks can be blocked from advertising, and existing certifications can be withdrawn.
Why it matters
Operators planning Masthead buys should first confirm that their certification under the Gambling and Games policy is in place and in good standing. Operators should also check whether the entity placing the order is subject to gambling registration in the relevant jurisdiction, because Google's updated policy excludes advertisers that are not.
The lack of a market list limits what can be planned. Until Google says where the expansion applies, operators could treat availability as unconfirmed in each jurisdiction and check local licensing and age-restriction requirements before committing budget.
The Masthead is also a high-visibility format at the top of YouTube's homepage. Any compliance failure tied to such a placement could put certification at risk, given that existing certifications can be withdrawn.
What's next
The Masthead eligibility change takes effect on 21 October 2026. Google has not yet named the markets that will be included, and operators may want to watch for further guidance from the company.
